Representative Thomas Malony from Pima county, oldest member of the Arizona legislature, is dead.
The 80-year-old lawmaker, less than 12 hours after he had, as an honor to his years, dropped the gavel which ended the tenth legislative session, was injured fatally when his car, steering gear locked, overturned on the highway near Florence junction.
He died five hours later in the county hospital here from a crushed shoulder and shock.
Mr Malony was enroute to his home in Tucson. Miss Lydia Aguirre, who served as his attache in the tenth legislature, was driving. She was not hurt.
Sheriffs deputies who investigated, said the steering gear locked, sending the car over an embankment. It turned over twice.
