Douglas Lee Hall went home to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on April 8, 2003 after a long illness, he fought the good fight.
He was born June 6, 1925 in San Francisco, CA and raised in Oakland, CA He served our country in the U.S. Navy Special Forces, Underwater Demolition during WWII. He moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1953, met the love of his life, Lynn, and started the first registered Judo Club in the Valley at the Downtown YMCA.
In 1956 he was asked to start the Judo Program at Luke AFB. He was a member of the US Olympic Committee 1968-1980 and in the 1960's he served as the National AAU Chairman for Judo. He was a 7th degree Black Belt, Teacher of Judo for 50 years and he loved influencing young men and women. He retired from the U.S. Government in 1985. He was a member of the Glendale Masonic Lodge #23, Scottish Rites and the El Zaribah Shrine.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn, brother Donald, and daughters, Donna Corbin and Marilyn Caliendo, and her husband, Paul; grandchildren Jayme Chambers, Julie Mursalat, and her husband Mumin, Rebekah Corbin, Cody Caliendo and Megan Caliendo; and great grandchildren Isaiah and Elijah Mursalat.
He leaves behind many devoted friends whom he loved very much and who loved him too. Service will be held Monday, April 14, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at The Chapel of the Chimes, 7924 N. 59th Ave.
