BECK, Henry Cabot, Sr.


The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Sunday, April 13, 2003 Henry Cabot Beck Sr., was born in New York City on August 6, 1925, and passed away on April 10, 2003. The son of Col. William F. Beck and Marie Louise Delamazure, Henry was raised primarily in New York, Kansas City and Elkton, Missouri, before he joined the Navy and served during WWII and the Korean War. He married Martha Manos in Phoenix in 1949 and together the couple moved to northwest Indiana where he came to work for Ford as an electrician, a job he held until he and Martha retired to Payson, where they lived until Martha's death in 2002. Henry was a child of the Great Depression and the War; he was stoic and practical minded, and was possessed of uncommon intelligence, curiosity and charm. Along with his two surviving brothers, Carlos and Andre, he was one of fan dancer Sally Rand's five half-brothers, as well as being a long time participant in the Chicago area science fiction fan community. Henry is succeeded by his daughter, Irene Louise Komp, of Hobart, Indiana, and his son Henry Cabot Beck Jr. of New York City and Phoenix. Courtesy of Pat Wilson.
