Martha Christine
(Maiden Name: Montgomery)
The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona
November 17, 2009
Martha Christine Montgomery Frisby, 80, of Corsicana, Texas, died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at Navarro Regional Hospital. She was born Nov. 5, 1929, in Hubbard, Texas, the daughter of T.C. and Mary Anne (Freeman) Montgomery.
She graduated from Mexia High School in 1946 and attended North Texas State Teachers College (now University of North Texas). She and her husband Bob R. Frisby met at Hubbard High School functions and married Nov. 25, 1949, in Mexia during his senior year at Baylor University. She used to joke about marrying Bob so she could travel a lot and she did.
A veteran of World War II, Bob was in ROTC at Baylor, recalled to active duty during the Korean conflict and remained on active duty until August 1975.
They retired in Austin since their oldest daughter, Robin, and later Amy were University of Texas fans and eventually graduates. They moved to Corsicana in 1979 to be near Martha's aging parents and a sister and brother and because they were attracted to Corsicana with its small-town flavor and proximity to the DFW Metroplex.
Martha's travel yen was almost satisfied by their assignments to the Philippines, Germany and Greece, with side trips to France, England, Holland, Spain, The Holy Land, Liechtenstein (where they spent five days in world's smallest country because Amy had strep throat), Switzerland and Italy.
Since moving to Corsicana, they had traveled to Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, all of the Baltic Sea countries, including Russia, Finland, Sweden and Norway, and were still thinking of traveling down the river to the Black Sea, but didn't get around to it.
In addition to travel, Martha as an incredible cook, great housekeeper and decorator, piano player and sang alto in many military base officers club and church choirs, including St. John's Episcopal Church and First United Methodist Chancel Choir in Corsicana.
She was a wonderful mother to Robin (Jeff) Fuller of Show Low and Amy Starling of Corsicana, Texas; grandchildren Rachel Sherman of Phoenix, Anna Sherman of Show Low, Joshua Starling of Dallas, Texas and Alyssa, Abby and Annie Starling, all of Corsicana, Texas; stepgrandchildren Zachary Fuller of Temple, Kelci and Emma Fuller of Show Low.
She is also survived by her sister and sole survivor of six siblings, Nell Marshall of Beeville; sister-in-law Jean Montgomery of Victoria, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom were dear to her heart.
No man ever had a more loving, caring wife than Bob Frisby, just short of their 60th anniversary.
Visitation will take place from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, at Corley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Moss, Rev. Mike Alexander and Rev. Monty Paul Marshal officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Hubbard, Texas.
Pallbearers will be family members. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. David Campbell, Dr. Kent Rogers, Dr. Bob Kingman and Dr. Charles Biltz.
