Norvel Owens Mortuary, Flagstaff, Arizona (March 27, 1946 - February 2, 2010) William “Bill” Clifford Heckel, 63 of Flagstaff passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on February 2, 2010. Bill was born March 27, 1946 in Jefferson, South Dakota to William Heckel, Sr. and Caroline (Wiedemer) Heckel. Bill enlisted in the army in 1964 and served with the 82nd Airborne in the Dominican Republic. In 1976 Bill moved to Flagstaff where he worked in the construction field as a master carpenter, and in 1997 he became a licensed contractor. Bill is survived by his wife, Linda, two daughters, Janette Smith-Riepe of Flagstaff and Tara Turner of Dayton, Ohio, his son, Tyson (Lisa) Heckel, of Dayton, Ohio, his 9 grandchildren, Justin Smith, Bradley Turner, Jordan Smith, Teia Heckel, Karissa Turner, Christopher Heckel, Cody Riepe, Jay Smith and Cyler Turner; two sisters, Sharon Larsen of South Dakota and Judy (Ronnie) Gildemaster of South Dakota; one brother, Robert Warren of Australia and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Additionally, at the time of his death, Bill was eagerly anticipating the birth of his first great-grandchild. A Celebration of Bill’s life will be held Monday, February 8th at 2:00 p.m. at Norvel Owens Mortuary Chapel, 914 E. Route 66, Flagstaff, AZ.
