Bernard Earl Davis, was born February 3, 1924 in Phoenix, Arizona to Donald and Hallie Davis. He passed away on April 8, 2003.
He graduated from Phoenix Union High School and attended college in Salt Lake City, Utah on the G.I. Bill afer serving in the U.S. Navy in World War II. Bernard distinguished himself as a rear gunner on a U.S. Navy dive bomber in World War II in the sea battles of the South Pacific. He was connected with Bombing Squadron Six aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Enterprise. He and his pilot had to ditch their plane before it crashed as they ran out of fuel returning from a bombing run and was rescued at sea.
Bernard was awarded The Distinguished Flying Cross with Four Gold Stars for Strike Awards, plus The Presidential Unit Citation, as well as The Purple Heart.
He is survived by one brother, Donald J. Davis of Chino Valley, Arizona.
Military honors services will begin at 10:30 AM, Thursday, April 17, 2003, at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road. Services entrusted to Advantage Colonial Chapel.
