Gilbert W. (Bill) Sandler, 86, passed away February 8, 2010 at his home, the Peridot Assisted Living, in Prescott, AZ. He was born in Prescott, Arizona, November 25, 1923 to G.W. and Carolyn (Coffman) Sandler.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his first wife Jean (Evans), who passed away in 1983, and his second wife, Martha (Hunt), who passed away in 2004.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie; daughter, Phyllis (Paul) Lupo of Prescott; brothers, Bob Sandler and Ralph Sandler; sister Annamary (Keith) Turley; granddaughter, Bethany (James) Pattie; and great grandson, Gilbert Pattie of Tempe.
Gilbert proudly served in the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division during WWII. He received two purple hearts for wounds received in combat to liberate the Italian Alps.
He was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church in Prescott. As a young man, he was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He enjoyed skiing and playing golf until late in life. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and a respected member of the community.
A Memorial Service will be at 2pm on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at the First Baptist Church (Goodwin and Marina Streets).
