PERKINS, Marcene

The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Thursday, April 17, 2003 Marcene Rudd, 72, passed away on Tues., April 15th in Phoenix, AZ. Marcene Perkins was born in Hammond, IN. on April 24, 1930, the daughter of Wendell Holmes (Perk) Perkins and LaVonne Johnson Perkins and the sister of Ramona Perkins, who later became Ramona Stowe. The family lived in Indiana and Kentucky before settling in Northeastern Ohio, where Marcene graduated from Rootstown High School in 1947. She won the Miss Portage County beauty pageant that year as the entrant from Ravenna. Marcene married Earl Likens in 1948 and they had four children, Marla Stouffer of Ravenna, OH., Melodie Zentz of Phoenix, Matt Likens of Plantation, FL. and Mark Likens of Phoenix, all surviving their mother. She worked in the registrars office at Kent State University for many years. After Earl's death in 1971, Marcene married Tom Rudd in 1976 and relocated to Phoenix. Besides her children, she is survived by five grandchildren. Services will be held at Hansen Chapel, 8314 N. 7th Street in Phoenix on Friday, April 18th at 3:00 PM. Courtesy of Pat Wilson.
