Joseph Ataya Ansara, 68, died April 16, 2003, in Mesa, Arizona. Joe was born in Aitha, Lebanon. He immigrated to the United States in 1956 and served two years in the United States Army. He finally settled in Toledo, Ohio. After operating a successful restaurant, Joey's Supper Club, for many years, he moved with his family to Arizona in 1976 and purchased the Stockyards restaurant with his brother Maurice.
After several years, Joe returned to Toledo, Ohio to re-establish Joey's. In 1989, Joe and his family came back to Arizona for good where they operated the Red Devil Italian Restaurant in Tempe.
Joe is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sylvia, his children, Wendy, Joseph and Yasmeen; his son-in-law, Alex; his grandchildren, Silvia and Alex; his brothers John and Maurice; and his sisters, Mariam and Yvette.
Visitation will be held at Mesa Heritage Mortuary Friday, April 18, 2003 4:00-8:00PM.
Mass will be held at St. Ignatius Orthodox Mission Saturday, April 19, 2003 at 10:00AM.
