Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend Betty Youse, 81, died Monday Feb. 8, 2010, in Sun City, Calif. She was a longtime resident of Blue.
Betty was born March 22, 1928, in Wampam, Pa. ,to Ernest and Ruth Luce. Her family moved to Colorado, Arizona and then New Mexico where she met her future husband Dick Youse. Betty and Dick enjoyed married life together in Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Texas, California and Missouri. They lived in various National Parks, raising their children and surrounded by God´s incredible nature.
While living in St. Louis, Missouri, Betty earned her master´s in education and taught in a community college as a math and electronics teacher. Her talent as a teacher was enjoyed by students and colleagues alike.
Betty and Dick retired in the late 70s and moved from St. Louis, Mo., to the Blue. They lived next door to Betty´s brother, his wife Julie and their children at the Luce Ranch. Betty enjoyed an active ranch retirement life as a member of the Blue River Cowbelles and founding member of the Alpine Community Presbyterian Church. Her participation in the church was critical in its survival and continued success today. Betty's optimistic outlook on life and sensitive, caring ways enriched the lives of all around her. She blessed many with her wonderful talents as a musician also.
She is survived by her husband Dick; son Bill (Margaret); daugther Jeanne (Jon); grandsons James, Nathan and Simon; brothers Sam Luce (Julie), Harold Luce (Paula), as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Feb.15, at 2 p.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church, 41 N. Supai St. in Springerville.
