ALMARAZ, Antonia


Antonia Almaraz, of Flagstaff, died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, at the age of 84. She was born Dec. 14, 1921, in Flagstaff. She dedicated her life to the service of others, including fostering children, bringing comfort to the sick and as an active member of the Guadalupanas, in which she served as treasurer for many years. In her early years she worked as a housekeeper for several prominent Flagstaff families, was employed at American Laundry and, during World War II, at Southwest Forest Industries. She is survived by her husband, Alberto Almaraz; and children Esther (Gerald) Simmons, Ernie, Steve (Elaine) and Larry (Rhonda) Almaraz. Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. At Mrs. Almaraz's request, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Catholic School or the Guadalupanas.
