Visitation for Clarence Jay Wilson, Jr., 76, a lifelong Casa Grande resident, retired businessman and longtime civic leader, will be today (4/4/2002) at First Presbyterian Church of Casa Grande. The funeral will be Friday at First Assembly of God, with the Rev. Rick Lemberg officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
He died April 2, 2002 in Phoenix. Mr. Wilson was born May 28, 1925 in Casa Grande to C.J. "Blinky" Wilson Sr. and Faye Hamilton Wilson.
He attended school in Casa Grande and the University of Arizona before entering the Navy during World War II, in 1943. He returned to Casa Grande in 1946 and became a partner with his father in Wilson Motors, which was a Kaiser-Frazer dealership before later affiliating with Lincoln-Mercury. He later was a cotton farmer in the Midway area west of Casa Grande and then established Foxtail Realty with the late John Fearn Sr. Mr. Wilson was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church and served two terms as elder. He was active in the community, including membership in Lions, serving as president of Jaycees when the state convention was held in Casa Grande, board chairman of the old Hoemako Hospital, soil conservation board member, president of the Casa Grande Rotary Club and a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow and twice president of the Casa Grande Board of Realtors. He had been a 4-H leader and was a longtime Boy Scout representative, receiving the Silver Beaver award for service. After retiring from real estate five years ago, he met friends most mornings at the Cook-E-Jar restaurant.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Billie (Hutchins); three sons, Dennis J. Wilson of Chandler, Robert A. Wilson of Kansas City, Kan., and Steven Kent Wilson of Jonesboro, Ark.; a sister, Jacklyn Kentera of Phoenix; two stepbrothers, Kim Fox of Sierra Vista and Kenny Fox of Thailand; and 10 grandchildren.
