BELL, David Hurlow


The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Sunday, April 20, 2003 David Hurlow Bell, 74, died April 14, 2003 in Phoenix. He was a longtime resident of Sun Lakes, active in volunteer programs and the social life of that community. Born in Scranton, PA, he was the elder son of Alexander Hurlow and Esther Beppler Bell. Upon completion of military service, Dave attended the University of Arizona and received a Bachelor of Science in engineering. For much of his life, he was employed by the U.S. Department of the Interior as a mechanical engineer, working on major undertakings throughout the West, such as the Central Utah Project and others. In Lakewood, CO, where he lived for many years, he met and married Marie Koeck. Together they traveled the globe, but loved most especially the beautiful island of Maui in Hawaii. In addition to travel, Dave and Marie shared recreational interests including swimming, bowling, and golf. Dave was preceded in death by Marie less than a year ago. His brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Estella Bell, of Sterling, VA, and his sister, Elouise Bell, of Myrtle Beach, SC, survive him. The family expresses deepest gratitude to Dave's many friends who came to the assistance during his difficult final months, including Mr. and Mrs. Reinhard Rost, Neighbors Who Care, the Sun Lakes Posse, and the Colorado Hospice Home. A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 24th, 2003 at Sun Lakes All Faiths Chapel, 9240 N. Sun Lakes, Sun Lakes, Arizona.
