DUPONT, John (Jack) Louis


The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Sunday, April 20, 2003 John "Jack" Louis Dupont, 81, of Phoenix, passed away April 18, 2003. He was born August 3, 1921 in Hicks Station, Nevada. Jack attended the University of Nevada and received a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering. He served in the Army Air Corps as a 1st Lieutenant from 1943-1945. Jack flew 52 combat missions in the Atlantic Theat-er in B-24 Bombers. Following his mission, he was a flight instructor for B-25s. He was later employed as an engineer and estimator at Isbell Construction Co. for 22 years. He then worked in sales with Arizona Portland Cement for 15 years before retiring in 1983. Born and bred in the west, Jack developed into the consummate outdoorsman. His intense enjoyment of hunting, fishing, and hiking demonstrated his passionate appreciation of God's natural creations. The ability to put others needs before his own allowed him to share his passions for life with family, friends, students, acquaintances, and "soon to be converted" strangers. This unselfishness and his personal traits of honesty, integrity and intelligence earned the admiration and respect of all who knew him well. He was involved in several professional organizations and clubs including the American Society of Professional Estimators (President, 1977), AZ General Contractors Assoc., Sun Ang-els Foundation, Fiesta Bowl Charter Member, AZ Flycasters Club, Rock Mountain Elk Foundation, Ducks Unlimited, The Mule Deer Foundation, The Nature Conservancy, and the Presbyterian Church in Pinetop, AZ. Jack is survived by his wife Lucy Dupont, 2 daughters; Jeannie Dupont and Nannette Whiting (Gordon), 3 sisters; Vi Butler, Ernie Starr, and Doris Hurst, brother Alan Dupont, 2 grandsons; Jacob and Clinton Whiting, 3 granddaughters; Shann-on Rhoton, Mandy and Lindsay Weber, and 1 great granddaughter Amber Whiting. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Friday, April 25, 2003 at the Ross Burke and Knoble Mortuary in Reno, Nevada. A memorial service will be held in Phoenix in the latter part of May.
