Maurine Penfold Rainey, 82, passed away on December 7, 2002 after a courageous five-year battle with cancer. She was a native of Idaho and a resident of Mesa for the past 18 years.
Her husband, James Carl Rainey, preceded her in death in 1993. Survivors include two sisters: Elaine (Mrs. Jame L.) May and Carol (Mrs. Philip) Sorensen, both of Salt Lake City, Utah, her daughters: Karen Faye (Mrs. Joel) Thornton of Mesa, Linda Rae Riggs of Mesa and Marcia Lee (Mrs. Dennis) Scifres of Boise, Idaho, four grandchildren: David and Jim Thornton, Rex Scifres and Marie Hibbert, and four great grandchildren: Grace and Calvin Thornton, Kimber Ann Scifres and Jonas Hibbert.
Maurine was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has served as Regional Representative (AZ) of Daughters of Utah Pioneers, was active in Daughters of the American
Revolution, and served as Western States Representative of the Robert Bruce Society, and a member of the Caledonia Society. An avid genealogist and world traveler she enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies. In death, as in life, she will continue to influence and inspire her family and her many friends. Funeral services will be held beginning at the LDS Church located at 1450 N. Recker Rd., Mesa. Interment will be in Boise, Idaho.
