Charles "Red" H. Saunders, 74, died Nov. 6, 2002 at his home in Taylor.
He was born Oct. 18, 1928 in Young. Red, as everyone knew him, was a happy and generous man that was always willing to help anyone in need. Red was an avid hunter and was known as a bow sharpshooter. He enjoyed fishing, camping and was always in touch with nature. He also played the guitar, fiddle, harmonica and sang from the heart.
Red was the 11th of 14 children of William and Mary (Glaspie) Saunders. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, he worked as a cowboy at the OW Ranch, Smith Ranch, Babbitt Ranch and many others. Red was a guard at the Navajo Army Depot, in Bellemont and worked for APS until he retired in 1986, then moved to Gisela, then to Taylor in 1999.
Red was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Buck, Ed, Sam and Leonard; sisters, May, Maggie, and Pearl, a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth.
He is survived by sisters; Lorene Brunson of Globe, Evelyn Lyman of Apache Junction; brother, Abe (Alice) Saunders of Mancos, Colorado; sister-in-law, Faye of Mancos, Colorado; three sons and their children, William (Karen) of Taylor, Paul (Robin) of Oregon, Walter of Payson; 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and his companion and lifelong friend, Opal Carl of Taylor.
No services were held by Red's request.
