BROWN, Marilla (Milly)

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 01/07/2003 Marilla Mineer "Milly" Brown She was born May 13, 1915 in St. Johns to Joel Leman and Zina Wilkins Mineer. She married Errol Goheen Brown in June 10, 1935 and the marriage was later solemnized in the St. George Temple. She spent her childhood and early schooling in St. Johns, where she was a leader, was active in drama, sports and was well known for designing and sewing her own clothes, as well as for others and later for her children. She was an outstanding cook and homemaker. In addition to her twelve years of schooling in St. Johns, she attended Lamson Business College in Phoenix where she became proficient in stenographic work and bookkeeping. Following her marriage, in addition to raising her family of six children and moving to Kanab from Salt Lake City in 1950, she worked the desk at Parry Lodge and Treasure Trail Motel, where she was known for her efficient, courteous and friendly personality, and made many friends. Marilla was active in the LDS Church, holding several positions. She was president and an active member of the Kanab Literary League. She was also a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She is survived by her husband of 67 years; four daughters, Francine Hamblin of Fredona, Sherry Ann (Donald) Eddy of Kanab, SueZetta Whited of Orderville, Utah, Marguerite (Tina) Atherley of Las Vegas, Nevada; two sons, Errol G. Jr. (Myrna) Brown and Timothy Jon Brown, both of Kanab, Utah; 18 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren; brother, Lester (Regina) Mineer of Mesa; two sisters Ila (Kenneth) Pulsipher of St. Johns, Lucinda (LaMar) Farr of Mesa. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Leman, Myrl and Harold Mineer.
