The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona January 21, 2003 Dorothy Haws Slade Dorothy was born May 27, 1924 in Greer. She was a life long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dorothy served missions in Pennsylvania and Minnesota and faithfully attended the temple in both Mesa and Snowflake. She was a graduate of the University of Utah College of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse for 40 years. She was a member of the White Mountain Community Hospital governing board and the Hospital Auxiliary for many years. She supported the youth of Round Valley by attending many sporting and cultural events and was once named the Round Valley High School Sports Booster for the year. Dorothy and Tom ran the Mountain View Book and Supply in Eagar for many years. Dorothy will be remembered for her service to the community. She is survived by her family; sons, Thomas (Stacy) Slade of Eagar; daughters, Mary (Don) Hammond of Eagar, Sarah (Mary Brannham) Slade of Chandler; sister, Warty Skym of Missouri; brother, Harvey Haws of Eagar; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Slade; mother, Atella Haws; father, Carl Haws; brother, Carl "Buzz" Haws; sister, Sara Bloomfield. Services for Dorothy were held Jan. 11 at The Church of Christ of Latter-day Saints Eagar Amity Ward in Eagar. The family requests donations be sent to The Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Fund 116 S.
