PHILLIPS, Mason E.


Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, Arizona August 4, 1983 Mason E. Phillips died at the age of 90 in the Wickenburg community Hospital on July 24. He was born Jan. 28, 1893, in Villisca, Iowa, to Coriden Yates Phillips and Emma N. Gourley Phillips. He served in Europe during World War I. Returning from the War he married Carried G. Payne on June 14, 1919. He ranched near Pinedale and Jackson Hole, Wyo., and Sandpoint and Salmon, Idaho, until his retirement in 1858. He spent most of his winters after his retirement in the Morristown and Wickenburg area. He was a Master Mason with a lifetime-honorary membership, was once active in the Americana Legion and the Veterans of WWI, serving as a commander of both. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his sister, having lost his brother in World War I. Surviving relatives include daughters; Norma Bright and Virginia Chastain of Wickenburg and Frances Hansen, of Emmett, Idaho; and sons; Floyd E. Phillips, of Las Vegas and Warren J. Phillips, of Randolph, Utah. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and numerous great- grandchildren. Services were conducted July 30 in Emmett, Idaho.
