Kenneth W. Hammer, father, brother, cousin, nephew and friend to many, and a resident of Scottsdale, died on May 26, 2003, in his native state of New Mexico.
Ken was the very proud father of two daughters, Ashley and Alicia, who reside in Scottsdale. Ken was 54 years old, having been born in Tucumcari, New Mexico. Ken's parents, Glenn and Betty Hammer, are deceased. He has one brother, Bill Hammer, of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Ken attended Tascoca High School in Amarillo, Texas, graduated from Boulder City High School in Boulder City, Nevada as an honors student; he attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where he was awarded Bachelor of Science and Masters of Business Administration degrees. During his university years, Ken was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.
After graduation from UNLV, Ken became a Systems Analyst and mainframe Computer Sales Executive for Burroughs Corporation, followed by Tandem Computer Systems Inc. and for the last five years as a Marketing Executive for Sun Microsystems. Ken was the head of a nationally recognized sales team, where his leadership skills were acknowledged by Sun associates and customers alike.
Ken was particularly proud of the achievements of his daughters, Ashley, a 2001 graduate of Horizon High School, and Alicia, who is currently a student at Horizon. Both daughters were the apple of his eye and the focus of his adoration.
Extracurricular activities included driving sports cars, karate, hiking, mountain biking, physical training, gardening and spending quality time with his daughters. Ken was an avid history buff, particularly the Civil War, naval battleships and aircraft of all types.
