Harry D. Cooke was born in Redcliff, Colo., on May 31, 1914. He passed away Oct. 11 at Beverly manor in Sun City.
Cook came to Wickenburg in 1929 as a 13 year-old boy with his family, the late H.D. Cooke Srs.
He graduated from high school at 15 and began the road construction business. He helped build many of the present Northern routes and from there he spent a year at Alison Steel Company. His working career also included some of the local mines, namely “The Vulture.”
In 1938, Harry and Shirley Cooke were married together they ran a construction business. Cooke Brothers Builders for 24 years. Cooke retired from the Town of Wickenburg as building inspector, where he was employed from 1974 to 1980.
Cooke was a Christian and an active member of “The Door-Christian Center.”
He is survived by his wife Shirley; son Dean, Windamere, Fla.; daughter, Patty Doom, Wickenburg and Barbara Charles of Temple; 11 grandchildren and brother, Richard, of Wickenburg.
Services will be Oct. 14 at The Door-Christian Center, 844 Sunset Drive, at 2 p.m.
Interment will follow in the Wickenburg Cemetery.
