MINER KILLED BY ROCK FALL
Tom A. Barkley, shift boss at the Octave mine, was killed last Saturday when a falling rock crushed him as he was working in a stope at the 2,00 [sic] foot level.
Clifford Murdock, deputy state mine inspector, reported the death is "accidental due to a fall of rock."
Barkley, who had worked in the Yavapai county gold mining area about six years, was killed instantly, according to L. M. West, manager of the property that is now being dismantled.
Survivors include the wife, Frances; a daughter, Immogene; a sister, Lellah Ruth of Rock Springs, Wyo., and two brothers O. L. of Payson and John of Phoenix.
Before being employed by the Octave company, Barkley worked for the Johnson mine.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Wickenburg Chapel.
