Alice Louise Layton Fowlie, 81, of Phoenix passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2003. Louise was born in Henrietta, Texas on July 7, 1921, daughter of Sterling James Layton and Martha Louise Layton.
She was the widow of Phoenix dentist Dr. John P. Fowlie. Louise loved life, learning and people and these loves were her constant motivation to give of herself, her time and her possessions to many causes.
She was a lifelong volunteer in multiple Phoenix organizations, including St. Francis Xavier Church, the Phoenix Dental Auxillary, the Rawson House Docent Staff, Age-Link, RSVP, Beautitudes Center D.O.A.R., Volunteer Interfaith Caregiver Program, St. Vincent DePaul, Upward Foundation, Rainbow Acres, Shanti, Phoenix College Senior Adult Program and many others. Louise was named a 2002 Blue Cross Blue Shield Ageless Heroes Finalist for her countless volunteer hours and her committment to learning.
She never stopped learning as was evidenced by her proud attainment of her college degree at age 67.
Louise is survived by her children, Mike and Beverly Fowlie, Rick and Patti Dye, Dan and Terri Becktold, Dan and Annette Fowlie, sisters Dorothy Layton and Katherine Owens, and countless friends and neighbors. Louise loved her family, especially her grandchildren, Ashley and J.J. Fowlie, Jenna, Amy and John Dye, Ben and Kim Becktold, Brittany Ferrin, C.J. and Savannah Fowlie. She was looking forward to the birth of her eleventh grandchild. Louise will be dearly missed by all whose lives she has gently and lovingly touched.
A celebration of her life will be held at St. Francis Xavier Church on Wednesday, April 23rd, 2003 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Louise requested memorials be made to the Beautitudes Center D.O.A.R. 555 W Glendale Ave. Phoenix AZ 85021.
