Lou Pooyouman, 67, died Feb. 10, 2003 at her home in Holbrook.
She was born at Hotevilla Village on Third Mesa of the Hopi Reservation. She was raised there and attended the Hopi Day School, attended high school in Long Beach, California and helped pay her way through school by babysitting. She then attended Arizona State Teachers College in Flagstaff, then ASU in Tempe where she received her Masters Degree in English.
She taught in Window Rock, Tuba City and Tucson before coming to Holbrook in 1969 where she taught at Hulet and Park Elementary schools until she retired in 1998. She continued substituting at the school right up until she passed away peacefully in her home early Monday. She will be missed by her family. She loved taking care of her grandchildren and helping them with their school work.
Donna is survived by her husband, Allen G. Pooyouman of Holbrook; one son, Tod Pooyouman of Second Mesa; her mother, Lorraine Lomatska of Hotevilla; two brothers, Riley and Kenny Lomatska both of Hotevilla; four sisters, Sally Duwyenie of Mesa, Susie Lomatska, Verlie Tawahongva and Norleen Honyaktewa all of Hotevilla; and three grandchildren.
She was buried at the Village Cemetery in Hotevilla Feb. 10.
Owens Mortuary of Holbrook handled the arrangements.
