DUNCAN, John William


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, AZ - 02/28/2003 John William Duncan, 76, died Feb. 17, 2003 in Scottsdale. Mr. Duncan was born in Amber, Oklahoma and grew up there but lived in California for many years until moving to Lakeside in 1989. He married Bernice E. Nidever in Reno, Nevada in 1946. He worked as a supervisor in a food processing plant in California for about 30 years, was involved with the Salton Sea Beach fire department and served on the ambulance board. He then worked as a plumber for ten years before retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Show Low Elks Lodge No. 2090 for the past 40 years. He loved to hunt and fish, play pool and loved the outdoors. He loved life and was very active. He was always doing something, living life to the fullest, loved people and socializing with them. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife; Bernice of Lakeside; daughters, Sandra Lindsey of New Orleans, Louisiana and Tamara Knox of Escalon, California; granddaughters, Julie Bourgoyne of Houston, Texas and Sheila Fleeman of Stillwater, Oklahoma; sister, Lois Fortner of Claremore, Oklahoma and great-grandchildren, Christopher and Olivia. Memorial services are pending and will be held at the Show Low Elks Lodge. Arrangements are under the direction of Fletcher's Mortuary of Show Low.
