The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 03/21/2003 Long time resident Gloria M. "Porky" Gillespie, 80, died after a longtime bout with cancer March 14, 2003 at her home in Holbrook. Gloria was born in Holbrook Feb. 22, 1923 to O.A. "Arthur" and Lorraine Stone. She spent many years in San Carlos and Globe before moving back to Holbrook. She was an avid sports fan, and really enjoyed watching the Diamondbacks and the Suns. Mrs. Gillespie is survived by her daughter, Charlene (Delford) Wauneka and their son, James of Holbrook; her son, S.E. "Dale" Gillespie (Carol) and their children, Angela, Cayenne, Holly and Jared of Beaverton, Oregon. She is also survived by two nieces, Nancy McAllester of White Mountain Lake and Beverly Goodnight of Holbrook; three nephews, Billy Gillespie of Holbrook, Art Gillespie of Phoenix and Gary "Jeep" Gillespie of Tenmile, Oregon, and their families; and lots of grandnieces and grandnephews, as well as one brother-in-law, Marlin Gillespie (Joni) of Holbrook; sister-in-law, Martha (Jim) Baca of White Mountain Lake; sisters-in-law, Jeannie Gillespie, Betty Jo Gillespie, Augusta "Gussie" Gillespie of Holbrook, Jean Gillespie of Lakeside, Evelyn "Cleo" Gillespie of White Mountain Lake; her gambling buddy, Betty Bush from Globe; uncle, Tony (Ninfa) of Las Cruces, New Mexico; three foster sons, Anthony, Orlando and Leonard Belvado and their families from San Carlos; and many, many dear friends in San Carlos, Globe and Holbrook. She was preceded in death by her husband C.F. "Shorty" Gillespie; sister, Lorraine "Snooky" (Mrs. Bill) Gillespie and her parents. The RTA Hospice staff of Show Low provided a great deal of appreciated services during her last days. A memorial service is pending. In lieu of flowers, donations should be directed to Show Low RTA Hospice, 5658 State Hwy 260, Lakeside, AZ 85929. Fletcher's Mortuary of Show Low is handling arrangements.
