Don L. Halvorson, 69, died March 18, 2003 in Phoenix.
He was born Jan. 18. 1934, in Wildrose, North Dakota, to Conrad and Alice Halvorson. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952-196?, after which he received his bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado and his master of science teaching and Ph.D. in geology from the University of North Dakota.
Dr. Halvorson served as chairman of the Department of Geology and Geological Engineering at UND and as State Geological of North Dakota from 1981-1985. More recently, he was professor of geology at Northland Pioneer College and the Northern Arizona University extension in the White Mountains, retiring in 1996. He loved teaching and enjoyed woodworking and a good conversation.
Don is survived by his wife Dawn Halvorson; sons, Chris (Cady) Halvorson of Boulder, Colorado, John (Kimber) Halvorson of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, James (Melisa) Halvorson of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota' brother, Douglas (Myrna) Halvorson of Camarillo, California; sister, Connie (Jeremy) Nelson of Crosby, North Dakota; six grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.
A grave side service was held Monday, March 24 at Citizens' Cemetery; and a memorial service was held Monday, March 24 at Living Christ Community Lutheran Church in Flagstaff
Memorial gifts may be designated to ELCA World Hunger Appeal or Habitat for Humanity of Flagstaff and mailed to Living Christ Church.
