Eugene Leo (Gene)
Eugene Leo "Gene' Alcala, beloved husband, father, brother, friend,age 50, passed away June 3, 2002 in Scottsdale. Born Sept. 22, 1951 in San Antonio, Texas he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Viet Nam conflict.
Gene graduated from Cathedral High School in El Paso, Texas, received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado and attended Arizona State University in the Master's program. He moved to Arizona 25 years ago and was a career employee of the U.S. Postal Service in Phoenix and a proud member of their Union.
Gene is survived by his wife Carmen Cuomo-Alcala, son Matthew Eugene Alcala, daughters Laurie and Naomi Alcala and stepdaughters Sarah Gonzalez and Karissa Warren, and three grandchildren. His mother Rose E Alcala, sisters Terry (Ernie Meza), and Linda Alvaerez Alcala, brothers Carlos (Norma), Thomas (Anne), Robert (Carmen) & Daniel; 21 nieces and nephews, and 3 great nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his father Thomas B. and sister Anna Alcala.
Memorial Mass will be Thursday June 27, 2002, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church 3801 N. Miller Rd. Scottsdale, AZ. Gene was a child of the sixties, and truly represented his generation, sometimes troubled, but always with optimism and love in his heart.
