Erik Daniel Steffen, 39, died Feb. 12, 2010, in Concho. He was born Nov. 11, 1970, in Phoenix.
Erik was once a Young Marine and a member of the Sons of the VFW. He graduated from UTI Tech College in Phoenix with a degree in Diesel Transmissions. Erik was a loving husband, father, son, cousin and brother. Erik had a very big heart and always looked forward on pleasing others before himself. He definitely had the gift of storytelling; his personality, sense of humor and smile would ignite and captivate an audience of any age. "Although Erik will no longer be here to make us all laugh, he leaves us with many years of memories we will share with everyone. We love you very much!" He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife Jonna Steffen; children Sage, Eli and Ryan; his mother Patricia Jacobs-Steffen and David George of Concho; mother-in-law Judy Tomich of Concho; godson Earl Joseph Steffen of Phoenix; paternal grandparents Paul and Ida Steffen of Phoenix; aunt and godmother Virginia Steffen of Phoenix; aunt Irene Steffen of Phoenix; Viola Hernandez, Council Bluffs, Iowa; uncle Eddie Jiminez of La Junta, Colo.; sisters Annita (Mario) Ortiz of Denver, Colo.; Bobby Jiminez of Denver, Colo.; brothers Martin (Michelle) Jacobs of St. Louis, Mo., Michael (Helen) Jacobs of Nashville, Tenn., and Jason Jacobs of Pittsburgh, Pa. Erik is also survived by nieces and nephews Maria Lucero, Rick (Debbie) Lucero, and Stephanie Jiminez of Denver, Colo.; Jake, Josh, Tristan, Talon and Alexandra Jacobs of St. Louis, Mo., Alec Jacobs of Nashville, Tenn., Hannah and Rachel Jacobs of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and great nieces Alaynah and Aaliyah Lucero of Denver, Colo.; god sisters and first cousin(s) Kathryn Victoria Steffen, Veronica Felix;, Isabel Barboza, Valerie Steffen, Vanaessah Johnson, Vektoir Johnson, Chance Steffen, James Douglas, Alexandria Peterson, Brittany Peterson, Nathan Steffen, Jeanette Barboza, Natalie Barboza, Pauline Barboza, Robert Duque Jr. and Anastasia Duque, all from Phoenix. He also is survived by many other aunts, uncles and cousins.
Erik was preceded in death by his father Alfred Steffen, uncle and godfather Earl Steffen, niece Sarah Jacobs and maternal grandparents Eddie and Lucy Jiminez.
A memorial service will be held at the Vernon Stake Center, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1570 County Road 3140 in Vernon at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20.
