Harold Lloyd Howard, 85, died Feb. 12, 2010, at the home of his son, James Howard, in New Kent, Va. He was born in Ray April 18, 1925, to Homer Jackson Howard and Lucy Spence Howard. He was the seventh of nine children and lived most of his young life in Ray.
He married Bessie Opal Penrod of Lakeside Oct. 11, 1952. They had been married for 49 years at the time of her death. They raised their young family of four sons in Ray and Lakeside, moving to Sahuarita in 1964. Harold was a WWII Navy veteran serving in the Pacific theater. He was a heavy equipment operator and well driller by trade. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints and served in many capacities in the Church.
He is survived by his children, Lloyd (Susie) of Truro, Maine and James "Jim" (Ramona) of New Kent, Va., and two sisters Janette of Phoenix and Marilyn of Fresno, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his wife Bessie in 2001 and two sons, David Frederick Howard and Donald Eugene Howard.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at the LDS Cemetery in Tucson, located on North Alvernon Way.
