CHAVEZ, Jose

Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, Arizona February 19, 2010 Jose Chavez, 91, of Flagstaff, died Monday, Feb. 15, 2010. Mr. Chavez was born Nov. 18, 1918, in San Rafael, N.M. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II European African Middle Eastern Theater. He moved to Flagstaff in 1950 and worked in Bellemont as a demobilization expert and surveillance inspector. Mr. Chavez is survived by his daughter, Marina (Manuel) Avelar; sons Joe Jr. (Lillian) Chavez, Jessie Chavez and Eddie Chavez, all of Flagstaff, and Leroy (Linda) Chavez of Salem, Ore.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Chavez, on May 22, 2004. Private family services have been held. Condolences can be sent to his family at www.norvelowensmortuary.com.
