MERTEN, Stella J.

The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Tuesday, April 22, 2003 Stella J. Merten, of Tucson, AZ, passed away April 18, 2003. She was 71 years young. Her adoring and devoted husband, Alvin, and her loving children Bob, Mike, Gary, Susan, John, and Joe survive her. Stella was blessed with nine grandchildren, Sherri, Jennifer Marie, Jennifer Lynn, Jason, Lauren, Jessica, Philip, Jeffery, and Jamie, as well as two soon-to-be born great grandchildren. Holding these babies was one of the many joys of her life. She also leaves behind four sisters, Helen, Kay, Polly, and Mary. Stella was born in Globe, AZ and was a long time resident of Superior and San Manuel, AZ. When Stella and Alvin met it was love at first sight. They looked upon each other with that same love throughout their remarkable 53-year marriage, referring to each other as "Momma" and "Pappa". She charmed all who knew her with her contagious smile and extraordinary optimism. A memorial service directed by Father Michael Bucciarelli will be held on Wednesday, April 23 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Evergreen Mortuary, 3015 N. Oracle Road.
