Baseline, Apache Jct., AZ. He died Monday, April 21, 2003 in Mesa, AZ. Mr. Mertens, an avid sportsman, retired in 1979 from jobs in Manufacturing Management. He was born in North Star, Michigan. Survivors include his daughter, Cherie (Dwight) Shank of Grand Jct., CO., son, Gerald "Chip" (Sandy) Mertens of Jeffersonville, IN., five grandchildren, Kelly Knudsen, Jeff Shank, Kim Hawkins, Shawn Mertens, Patrick Mertens and 3 great-grandchildren. special companion and care giver, Leona Mickelson. He was predeceased by his first wife, Lorraine Mertens. Interment will take place in North Star, Michigan, Mountain View Memorial Gardens Mortuary handled arrangements.
