STOCKER, Joseph S.


The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Tuesday, April 22, 2003 Joseph S. Stocker, age 90, passed away April 19, 2003. He was born in Detroit, MI and has been a resident of Phoenix since 1946. He did publicity work & was a co-founder and editor of the Phoenix Jewish News. Joe was a free lance writer, producing articles for national magazines including Saturday Evening Post, Collier's Redbook, McCall's, Popular Mechanics, Reader's Digest, Arizona Highways and others. He was a writer of four published books on education and travel. In 1960, Joe became Director of Communications for the Arizona Education Association. He was active in the desegregation of the public schools & in ending anti-semitic discrimination by resorts in Phoenix. An Army veteran of WWII and active in numerous organizations, he has a passion for bicycle riding. Survivors include his sons David (Karyn) Stocker, Marc (Chelain) Stocker, & Steven Stocker, sister Naomi (Ben) Gordon; brother Allan (Pat) Stocker and granddaughter Alaina. Funeral services Tuesday, April 22nd at 2:00pm in Sinai Mortuary Chapel, 4538 N. 16th St., Phoenix. Contributions in his memory to Arizona Civil Liberties Union, 77 E. Columbus, Phoenix, AZ 85012.
