Arthur Elbert Wright, 75, Phoenix, AZ, passed peacefully at home on April 17, 2003 after surviving 20 years with recurrent lung cancer. Born in Phoenix on October 27, 1927, he was an avid outdoorsman, finding time for hunting, fly-fishing and R.V. camping with friends and family after retiring in 1982 from A.P.S. Deer Valley Facility as parts inventory manager.
He developed a passion for cars and all kinds of auto racing events. He loved to drive and raced during the late '40s and early '50s at Manzanita Speedway and anywhere he could get behind the wheel.
He was predeceased by his parents, Elbert A. and Helen Feltes Wright; his sister Ann Hawthorne; his wife of 37 years Shirley and Pat, the mother of his children, Cheryl and Randy.
He is survived by his son and daughter and their families, his many nieces and nephews; his special granddaughters, Amanda and Rheanna and their mother, Shawna Call.
No one will feel his loss more than his wife, Flo, whose love and devotion was his strength during the past 9 years. He was a kind caring honorable man, who left his special mark on all who knew him. Deepest gratitude to Dr. Kevin Jackson, M.D. and his staff, the caregivers and support personnel from Lincare, Safenet and Hospice of the Valley for the care and compassion provided during his illness.
It is requested that contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley in his memory.
A memorial service will be held at the Creative Living Fellowship Center, C of R.S.c., 1241 E. Northern, Phoenix on Sunday, April 27, 2003 at 2:30 p.m.
