Rosary for George Thomas Colgan, 72, who retired in 1958 after 40 years in the U. S. Merchant Marine, will be at 7 p.m. Monday (Feb. 11, 1974) in A. L. Moore & Sons Mortuary, 333 W. Adams. Mr. Colgan, 3211 W. Van Buren, died Friday (2/8/1974) in Phoenix General Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Colgan was a native of Bridgeport, Connecticut, and came to Phoenix in 1963 from Auburn, N. Y. He joined the Merchant Marine at an early age and was graduated from the U. S. Merchant Marine Academy. He helped deliver supplies to the Navy during both world wars and the Korean conflict. One of the ships on which he served was torpedoed. Survivors include his wife, Harriette; a daughter, Irene D. Colgan of Phoenix; a sister out of state, and three grandchildren. Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 2038 W. Van Buren. Entombment will be in St. Francis Mausoleum. Published in The Arizona Republic Sunday, February 10, 1974.
