Alice Carrillo Grijalva, died peacefully April 2, 2003 at her son's home in Tucson.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Frank Campuzano Grijalva and her daughter, Alice C. Grijalva.
Alice was the last surviving grandchild of Don Emilio Carrillo, a Tucson pioneer. In 1877, Don Emilio acquired land in the foothills of the Tanque Verde Mountains and established a ranch he called "La Cebadilla". The name changed in 1927 to the Tanque Verde Ranch and in 1957 to the Tanque Verde Guest Ranch. Alice was born in Tucson, Oct. 9, 1920 to Raphael and Rita Carrillo.
She is survived by her son Frank Carrillo Grijalva (Carla F.); four grandchildren Raymond Anthony Gomez, Anna Maria Grijalva Van Zelf (Paul), Maria Elena Grijalva De La Rosa (Rod), Denise Marie Gomez Oroz; six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Alice and her husband Frank owned Frank's Meat Market (originally on Broadway and then on St. Mary's and Grande) a grocery and butcher shop in Tucson from the time they were married in 1940 until they retired full time to Cholla Bay in 1986.
Alice loved her family, her friends and life. Her faith and strength were an inspiration to all that knew and loved her, she truly will be missed.
Mass and interment was held in Puerto Pensaco, Sonora. She will be placed next to her husband Frank. They will both rest eternally near the home they loved in Cholla Bay, Sonora, Mexico.
