Elfie Stumpf, 88, passed away Feb. 12, 2010, at the home of her son in Prescott. Elfie was born Feb. 28, 1921, in a small farming community in southern Wisconsin. She was a true Renaissance woman, a loving and devoted spouse, homemaker, mom, nurse and community volunteer.
Elfie spent a lifetime helping others through her church, work and other volunteer activities such as teaching English to elementary school children and adults that were new arrivals to the United States. She always saw the best side of all people and she pulled humor out of even the darkest situations. All of her friends and family knew that at her home you could always get a hot meal, be listened to without judgment and have all of your secrets kept.
All through her life, Elfie never lost her sweet and thankful disposition, even when gracefully fighting an epic battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Elfie also shared her husband's passion for travel and during her lifetime visited all 50 states and many other places in Canada and Mexico.
Elfie is survived by her son, Gregory Stumpf (Carol) of Prescott; her four grandchildren, Ryan Stumpf (Teresa) of Mayer, Eric Stumpf (Melissa) of Prescott, Pearl Stumpf and Mara Stumpf-Hall (Peter) of Phoenix; and four great-grandchildren, Ashlee, Austin, Dawson and Garett.
There will be a private family service on Mt. Francis. Elfie's family suggests memorials be made in her memory to Alzheimer's Association, Northern Arizona Region, 225 Grove Ave., Suite B, Prescott, AZ 86301.
