Louis Kanter, age 89, died December 17, 2002. Lou was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 8, 1913.
He graduated from the University of Illinois College of pharmacy in June of 1934. For over 25 years, Lou was the pharmacist and proprietor of Haymarket Drugs in Chicago. In total, he practiced pharmacy for over 50 years. In addition, Lou was formerly a member of Congregation K.I.N.S. in Chicago, Illinois, Beth El Congregation in Phoenix, Arizona and was most recently a member of Young Israel of Phoenix.
He was the beloved husband for over 59 years to Rose (Brenner) Kanter; devoted father to Phyllis (Dr. James) Frank, Phillip, M.D. (Helen), Dr. Joyce (Dr. Ronald) Emrich, JoAnne (Marc, M.D.) Shapiro, and Janice (Mark, M.D.) Gotfried; and was a loving grandfather and great-grandfather of many.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, December 18, 2002 at Phoenix Memorial Park's Shalom section. Memorial contributions may be sent to Young Israel of Phoenix, 745 E. Maryland, Phoenix, Arizona 85014 or a charity of your choice. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.
