VINCENT, Hazel Ruth

(Maiden Name: Ryckman)

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 02/26/2010 Hazel Ruth Vincent, 88, died just before dawn Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, at her home in Taylor from complications of cancer with family at her side. Hazel was born March 25, 1921, to the late Warren Sr. and Ida (Hassa) Ryckman in Westfield, Emmon County, N.D., where she received her education. She has lived the past four years in Arizona to be near her daughter. Hazel appreciated the beauty of "old" things and had an extensive collection of antiques. She was able to make a successful career out of her hobby. While living in Elma, Wash., she became a friendly and familiar face to her community. She owned and operated the Oak Tree Antiques for many years. She also owned McCleary Hardware Store in McCleary, Wash., for a number of years. Hazel thoroughly enjoyed taking road trips through the United States. During her adventures on the road, she never passed by a flea market without stopping. She loved flea markets and was able to sell many of her own antiques at them. One of her favorite places to travel to, and sell her antiques, was Yuma, where she made many dear friends. Hazel looked for the joy that was to be found throughout her long life. She enjoyed a good game of Bingo and appreciated the peace and quiet of a fishing trip. She also enjoyed playing cards and growing her flowers in her garden. She also was quite skilled with embroidery work and many of her works are now gracing the homes of her family and friends. She was a member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the VFW, Shelton, Wash., Post #1694. This sweet, fun-loving and gentle woman will truly be missed by all who called her mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and friend. Hazel is survived by her daughters Ruth Pierce of McCleary, Wash., Lorraine (Lonnie) Faubion of Taylor; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters Myrtle Williams of Elma, Wash., Evelyn Tennant of Sturgis, S.D., and Mildred Reierson of Rosebud, Mont. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband John Coward Vincent (1978); daughter Beverly Vincent (1944); brothers Elmer Ryckman, Warren Ryckman, Jr.; and sister Violet Hehn. A visitation will begin at noon with funeral service at 1 p.m. Monday, March 1, at McComb's Hope Chapel, 421 W. E Street in Shelton, Wash. Interment will immediately follow at the Shelton Memorial Park where she will be laid to rest along side her husband, John. Her family gives a special "thanks" to Lakeside Hospice Compassus.
