BEHRENS, Heidi Anne

The Prescott Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona ~ February 27, 2010 Heidi Anne Behrens, mother of Kaitlin Rose, passed away on Feb. 19, 2010, surrounded by the love of her sisters, Barbi Jo, Andrea and Suzanne, and her precious child Katie Rose. Heidi was born May 5, 1955, the second child of six, to Carl and Barbara Behrens in Washington, D.C., at the Walter Reed Army Hospital. Early on, her parents and teachers recognized her gifted intelligence. She skipped the second grade to join her sister Barbi Jo in the third grade. The two of them would become inseparable throughout their next nine years of schooling. In 1983, Heidi graduated from Northern Arizona University School of Nursing, along with her sister Andrea, both to be licensed as registered nurses. As a lifelong learner, Heidi would return to school later on to obtain a master's degree in history. Due to Heidi's gift of love and compassion passed down to her from her Grampy Rice (Dr. Herbert Rice), Heidi became an advocate for her neonatal patients and their families. Heidi most recently served our homebound veterans from the Northern Arizona VA Healthcare System in Prescott, Ariz. Her co-workers will remember her for her determination to always put the veteran first, being their greatest ally and advocate. Heidi's nine nieces and nephews will commit to their memories that she was the "affectionate" Aunt Heidi, showering them with hugs and kisses. At the age of 41 Heidi realized her dream and became the "best mommy in the universe" by giving birth to her beautiful daughter, Kaitlin Rose. For the next 13 years Heidi would devote all of her energies to raising Katie. Due to Heidi's unconditional love, Katie has become an independent, strong and compassionate young woman. Heidi is survived by her beautiful, precious daughter, Katie Rose; mother Barbara McKeller; stepfather and dear friend Cleave McKeller; brothers Michael Behrens (Mary Lynn), Patrick Behrens (Miki), Sean McKeller (Cathy), Chris McKeller and Kevin McKeller; and sisters Barbara Jo Vann (Glen), Jody Behrens-Blaul (Scott), Andrea Jensen (Monte) and Suzanne Hill (Jason Neese). Heidi also leaves behind her precious nieces and nephews, Marine Corps Sergeant Alexander Behrens (Jody), Joe, Mathew and Jimmie Behrens (Michael and Mary Lynn), Noelle Jensen (Andrea and Monte), Matthew and Kyle Behrens (Patrick and Miki), Keely Hill (Suzanne), Bryson McKeller (Sean and Cathy); and a great-nephew and niece, Connor and Sophia Behrens (Alexander and Sara). She also leaves behind her two canine friends, Stinky Boy and Kelly. In lieu of flowers, the family asks the honor of your presence at her memorial service to share your precious memories of our dear sweet Heidi. If you are not able to attend her memorial service and would like to honor Heidi in a loving way, please send a donation to the ASPCA in her name. Heidi's memorial service will be at 1 p.m. March 6, 2010, in the chapel at the Bob Stump Veterans Administration Health Care System, 500 N. Highway 89, Building 152, Prescott, Ariz.
