The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Saturday, December 19, 2009 Homer G. Brooks (Sept. 9, 1929 - Dec. 11, 2009) Dad passed away Dec. 11, 2009, after suffering a heart attack in early November, then a serious stroke Nov. 16, 2009. Homer was born in Ft. Worth, Texas. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1949 and was honorably discharged in 1952. In Tucson, he worked for Hughes Aircraft for many years, helping build the first surveyor to the moon. He moved to Prescott in 1966. He was a successful fast-pitch softball pitcher locally and statewide. Homer traveled to New Zealand in 1972 with a local all-star team representing Prescott. He started horseshoeing full-time in 1975, shoeing horses all around the state. He was also pretty good at team roping and did some calf roping. He was a longtime member of the Bill Williams Mountain Men and participated in three presidential inaugural parades in Washington, D.C. Homer was an accomplished musician, playing and singing with his flat-top guitar. He will be missed by his family and friends. Services will be 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at the VA National Cemetery in Prescott.
