Sarah Elizabeth Doyle was born February 9, 1920 in Lakin, Kansas. She was raised on a wheat farm just northeast of Lakin. She started her school teaching career in a one room schoolhouse at Heartland, Kansas. At the start of WWII, she went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad as a station agent and telegrapher.
In 1945, she married Warner Howard Doyle in San Pedro, California where he was stationed in the Navy. They moved to El Paso, Texas where their first son, Warner Howard Jr. was born. Then Sarah returned to Lakin, Kansas during the Korean War where their second son, Gary, was born. They then moved to Fowler, Colorado where Sarah resumed teaching school. A third son, James was born there. A fourth son, Patrick, was born but did not survive.
In 1965, they returned to Lakin, Kansas where Sarah continued teaching until 1982, when she retired. At that time, they moved to Burkeburnett, Texas. Warner Howard died in 1991. She moved to Litchfield Park, Arizona in 1992 to be near her eldest son. She spent her final years at the La Loma Care Center in Litchfield Park. She passed away January 1, 2010 at the age of 89.
She is survived by Warner Howard, Jr. and Darlene Doyle of Goodyear, Arizona, Gary and Jolene Doyle of Beloit, Kansas, James Doyle of Burns, Wyoming, 8 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at the First Southern Baptist Church of Avondale on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 10:00 a.m.
