GILLESPIE, Setsuko Nishikawa


Setsuko Nishikawa Gillespie, died June 23, 2003, at John C. Lincoln Hospital in Phoenix, AZ. She was 77. She was born November 12, 1925 in Chiba, Japan. She met her husband, William R. Gillespie, while he was working in Japan as a civil engineer. They were married at the American Embassy in Tokyo, Japan, on December 27, 1959. They moved to Sierra Vista, Arizona, in January, 1959. After retirement in 1973, they moved to Show Low, where they lived for ten years. In 1983, they moved to Flagstaff. Setsuko received her U.S. citizenship on February 4, 1964. She enjoyed gardening, playing the piano, sewing and doing crafts. She is survived by her son, Byron (Kevin) Gillespie of Phoenix, AZ, sister, Taeko Yokoyama of Tokyo, Japan, and one grandson. She is also survived by many nephews, nieces and cousins in Japan. Graveside services will be held at Citizens Cemetery in Flagstaff, AZ, on Friday, June 27, 2003, at 11 a.m. Arrangements are being handled by Flagstaff Mortuary.
