Bill Hunter, 66, passed away peacefully on Feb. 27, 2010, at Hospice Family Care. He was born on Aug. 31, 1943, in Erie, Pa.
He is survived by his mother, LuCeil Hunter; sister Mary Ferra; and niece Cassie Ferra. He was preceded in death by his father, William Hunter, in 1993. Bill is also survived by a large circle of friends who loved him dearly for his sense of humor, his zest for life and his heartfelt helpfulness.
He came to Prescott in 1957 and graduated from PHS in 1961. After high school, he attended U of A and later graduated from ASU with a degree in psychology. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service and U.S. Post Office. Because of his love of freedom and the outdoors, he created a successful woodcutting business.
With his love of Arizona and Western history, he became an avid hiker, camper and kayaker. He could tell a great story and had many from his days of "hitchhiking America." Bill's passions included tennis, motorcycling, women and encounter groups. He was a pioneer in recycling and encouraged people to be thrifty and financially responsible.
Upon receiving his diagnosis, Bill said, "I HAD A GREAT RIDE!"
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Bill's name to Hospice Family Care, The Crossings, 100 E. Sheldon St., Suite 100, Prescott, AZ 86301.
