Michele Angelo DePietro, born February 16, 1917 in Holden, W VA, died April 23, 2003, in Daleville, AL. He was the son of Michelangelo and Alta DePietro.
Mike was pre-deceased by first wife, Dorothy Woolcock DePietro of Logan, West Virginia; and by four sisters, Mary Savage, Elvira Dawson, and Louise Steele and Billie Kuhn. He is survived by wife, Lauretta Walden DePietro of Panama City, FL; brother, Bob DePietro; sisters, Italy Nelson, Jimmie DePietro, Jackie Long,and Perdita Lydick; sisters-in-law, Marguerite Eisel, and June Singley; daughters, Jane Clancy, Sandra Wilson, Ellen Gillespie, and Patsy Johnson; grandchildren, Terri Millsap, Michele Collins, Mollie Templin, Michele Wilson, Megan Kinlacheeny, W. Sam Gillespie, Rosalyn Gillespie, Andrea Gillespie, Laura Johnson, Angela Johnson, and Clifford Johnson; and great grandchildren, Bryon Biggs, Michelle Anderson, Melissa Anderson and Joseph Collins.
Mike served in the Pacific Theatre, U.S. Army, during World War II, attaining the rank of Lt. Colonel. He was a graduate of Logan, W VA High School and West Virginia University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering; and was associated with Island Creek Coal Company at Holden and Pittston Coal Company near Clarksburg, West Virginia. He retired in 1985 after eight years with Mine Safety and Health Academy in Beckley, W VA, then moved to Panama City, FL.
A memorial service will be held for Mike on Saturday, April 26 at the First United Methodist Church of Wewahitchka at 3 p.m. and his ashes are to be interred in National Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, HI.
