The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Sunday, April 27, 2003 Vernoy Albert East, 100, peacefully passed away Fri day, April 25, 2003. Vern was born in Russell, ID, Jan. 9, 1903. Married Ora Borders in Dexter, MO in 1928 and happily celebrated their 65th Anniversary prior to her death in '93. A Tool/Die maker in Flint, MI. in the 40's; cafe owner/operator in Malden, MO. in the 50's and 60's. Inventor, electrician, draftsman and a special love for gyrocopter manufacturing, provided Vern a busy business life. Vern resided in the Scottsdale, AZ area since 1966. Vern is survived by his daughter Louise Woodcock (Don), sons Robert (Becky) and Roger East. Grandchildren, Ken Buchanan, Lori Jessen, Rob East. Step grandchildren, Oriana and Reid Roberts. Great grandchildren Ladatha and Dillon Buchanan, Christopher and Matthew Jessen. A special friend Greta Tryhus. Vern celebrated his 100th Birthday in Scottsdale, AZ, that was featured on the "Today Show" and local Channel 12 News. Vern will be remembered as a Very Special, Loving, Caring, Dad and Friend to many. He brought a lot of joy and kindness to even a casual acquaintance. Visitation will be Monday, April 28, 2003 at Green Acres Mortuary 401 N.
