BROWN, Edward James


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, October 3, 2006 Edward James Brown, born February 21, 1918 in Prescott, Ariz., passed away in his sleep on September 30, 2006. Ed spent a lifetime as a cowboy and a rancher, breaking horses as a young man for Matt Lee, Charley Rigden and the Hays Ranch in the Kirkland area, until he served in the Armed Forces. Upon his return he worked for various ranches over the years including the Yolo Ranch, the Cowden Ranch, the Bard Ranch, the Swinging H, the Spider Ranch, the Diamond A's, the Arizona Colorado Cattle Co., the X Bar One Ranch and the Blake Ranch. After two months of retirement, Ed worked leading the mule train down the Great Grand Canyon Trail for several years. If you knew Ed Brown you would know he could never retire for long. His wife of 49 years, Eloise Brown, preceded him in death. Ed leaves behind three children, Stan Brown, Shelly Blackmore and Dewey Brown; as well as five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Ed Brown was one of the last old-timer cowboys. Graveside services will be Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the Skull Valley Cemetery in Skull Valley, Arizona. Heritage Memory Mortuary of Prescott assisted the family with arrangements.
