SHORES, William Clinton (Bill)

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 05/23/2003 William Clinton "Bill" Shores died May 16, 2003 at his home in Lakeside. Mr. Shores was born Dec. 2, 1952 in Winslow. He grew up in Phoenix and Page, graduating from Page High School in 1970. He was stationed in Germany in the Army in the early 70s. He was a journeyman brick mason until a back injury forced him to leave his creative work, which he loved. He then attended Northern Arizona University, graduating in 1986 with a degree in Elementary Education. His next career was as a fifth and sixth grade teacher at Blue Ridge Mid School, a Blue Ridge football coach, and he taught at Whiteriver and Cibecue elementary schools. He was proud to point out local masonry jobs that he had done, including repair of the old Lakeside jail after it was damaged by an automobile, and many structures on the Blue Ridge campus. He had been "retired" because of his back problems in recent years. He is survived by wife Kay of eighteen years; sons, Cody and Jesse; his mother, Sybil Shores of Cottonwood; brothers, Alex (Andrea) of Peoria and Chris (Terry) of Page; sisters, Robin (Garry) of Cottonwood and Tracy of Tempe; the Brennan cousins Paulette Sogard, Tom and Barb Kimzey, all of Peoria, who were like siblings; and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his father, William Carlyle Shores; and his sister, Dana Speer. A celebration of Bill's life was held at Blue Ridge Christian Center, 184 W. White Mountain Blvd., in Lakeside Thursday, May 22 at 4 p.m. Please forward your written memory to Denise Thomas at her email address: dthomas@brusd.k12,az.us or at Blue Ridge Mid School, or contact Maureen NacNeil at 537-0320 with your written memory, on matter how brief.
