Merl Philip Sonnek 65, died Friday, May 23, 2003 in Show Low.
He is survived by his wife Gayle Sonnek. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 6 at Fletcher's Mortuary.

Merl "Bud" Sonnek, 65, died at his home in Show Low May 23, 2003.
He was born Nov. 29, 1937 in Beach, North Dakota, the son of Robert and Helen Sonnek. He married Gayle Stecker in 1959 and they had two sons. Barry and Jerry. Bud worked at the post office in Beach and also with his parents at Bob's Lanes. He appointed Postmaster at the Plummer, Minnesota post office in 1977, and subsequently was Postmaster in Edgemont, Lemmon, Custer and Pierre, South Dakota, retiring in 1999. He and Gayle moved from Pierre to Show Low following his retirement when he was employed at Joy's Furniture Store until his death.
Bud was preceded in death by his mother and father.
He is survived by his wife Gayle; two sons, Barry (Dana Point, California) and Jerry (York, Nebraska); his brothers, Kenneth (Livingston, Montana), Maurice (Sparks, Nevada), Karnes (Kalispell, Montana) and his sister Sharon (Rockville, Maryland). He was also grandpa to his grandchildren, Erin and Nikki, and one great-grandchild, Chloe.

A memorial service for Bud is scheduled June 6, at Fletcher's Mortuary in Show Low at 2 p.m. A funeral and burial will be scheduled at a later date in Beach, North Dakota.
